National Thunder Motorcycle Rally Tamworth

Organised Rides

Rally organisers are working hard to increase the number of organised rides so as many riders as possible can participate.

The National Thunder Motorcycle Rally will host five organised rides to a range of destinations in the Tamworth region. The rides will be held on Saturday 1 October and repeated on Sunday 2 October, providing plenty of opportunities for riders to participate and explore the region.

As there is a limit of 100 riders for each ride rally attendees must sign up for a ride to participate.  There is no fee to participate in the organised rides. Sign up for an organised ride when registering for the rally or log in after registering and select a your ride.

All rides will depart from the AELEC at the designated time. All food and beverages on rides are at the riders' own cost.

The National Thunder Run

Date: Monday 3 October

Time: Muster at 8am for a 9am departure and return 11am

Duration: 1 hour approx

Like all good motorbike rallys, this one will finish with a run through the city and surrounds. A fitting way to mark the end of a long weekend of music, food and fun. The National Thunder Run is a 35 km loop ride with no stops. There is no limit to number of participating riders however you must be registered to attend the rally to participate in the National Thunder Run. 

Make sure you are part of the National Thunder Run, where bikes of all breeds join forces one last time before farewelling Tamworth.

Dice Run

Date: Friday 30 September

Time: Depart 2.00pm and return 5.30pm

Duration: 4.5 hours including stop overs at Bendemeer, Nemingha and Calala.

Itinerary

The group will ride north to Bendemeer for the first roll of the dice at Bendemeer Hotel then return south stopping at the Kootingal Hotel and  then onto Calala Inn. A total of 85km. $10 cash registration to be paid on the day for the Dice Hand, cash prize we go to the person that rolls the highest total amount.

Ladies Ride to Willow Tree & Quirindi

Date: Saturday 1 October

Time: Depart 9.30 am and return 2.00pm

Duration: 4.5 hours including stop overs at Willow Tree for refreshments and Bob's Shed Quirindi.

Itinerary 

This ride is open to all riders, although places are limted as with all organsied rides. A 152km round trip, the ride will head south from  AELEC to Willow Tree for morning tea. After morning tea the group will travel to Quirindi for an hour or so stop over at Bob's Shed, an old time General Store filled with an eclectic display of pieces from the 50's and 60's and a tribute to Peter Brock. $6 entry fee payable upon arrival. 

Walcha lunch, return via Uralla & Bendemeer

Date: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October

Time: Depart 9.45am and return 2pm

Duration:4 1/4 hours including break for lunch

Itinerary

This longer ride involves  just over 3 hours on the bike and an hour stopover at Walcha  for lunch. Riders will travel north to Uralla and then head south on Thunderbolts Way to Walcha where there are a range of lunch options. After lunch head back to Rally HQ via the Oxley and New England Highways.

Morning or Afternoon Tea in Manilla

Date: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October

Time: Depart 10.00am and return 12.30 (morning tea)

Time: Depart 12.30pm and return 3pm (afternoon tea)

Duration:   2.5 hours including break for cake and a cuppa.

Itinerary

A 135km ride to Manilla for morning tea. Manilla has a number cafes and a bakery to choose from for morning coffee and plenty of options for something sweet. Head to Molly May’s,  Warm Discussions or The Manilla Bakery. Return to Tamworth via Somerton.

Barraba silos and lunch


Date: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October

Time: Depart 10.30am and return 1.30pm

Duration: 3 hours including stops

Itinerary 

This 92km ride to Barraba will take riders through Manilla and into Barraba CBD for lunch, with a unique photo opportunity stopover on the outskirts of Barraba to view the Barraba Silos Mural.

Lunch options are The Playhouse Hotel, the heritage listed Commercial Hotel, Polkadot Coffee Room and Queen Street Cafe all located along Barraba’s main street, Queen Street. Queen Street, features remnants of Victorian, Edwardian and art deco architecture and is worth exploring.

  • Toasted Turkish buns: beef or ham, with spinach, tomato & cheese.

  • BLT on Turkish bun, made to order.

Nundle Hills of Gold

Date: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October

Time: Depart 11.00am and return 2.00pm

Duration: 3 hours including stops

Itinerary 

Head south along the New England Highway, turning left onto Garoo Road and Lindsays Gap Road, allowing an hour to reach beautiful Nundle. Click here for more information on Nundle. An hour stopover in Nundle for lunch and to explore Nundle's antique, gift and homewares shops and historic buildings. Options for lunch; The Peel Inn Hotel, Mount Misery Gold Mine Cafe, Cafe Nundle on the Park and Jenkins Street Guest House. Return to rally central via Woolomin and Dungowan with a stopover at Chaffey Dam.

Bendemeer short ride and lunch

Date: Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October

Time: Depart 11.30am and return 2pm

Duration: 2 1/2 hours including break for lunch

 

Itinerary

Bendemeer is a pretty township located 42km north Tamworth. Lunch at the Bendemeer Hotel, located on the banks of the Macdonald River, then return journey via scenic Moore Creek.

Lunch will be catered by the Bendemeer School P&C and Bendemeer CWA providing an opportunity for these groups to raise funds for the community.

Two lunch options are available, both $15.

  1. Steak sandwich / onion / sauce + soft drink or water
  2. Sausage (two gluten free sausages) sandwich / onion / sauce + soft drink or water

An outdoor undercover dining area will be set up adjacent to the Bendemeer Hotel so the bar will be close by. Riders are welcome to use the hotel facilities.
