National Thunder Motorcycle Rally Tamworth

24 March 2022

Tamworth welcomes the sound of thunder as registrations roll in for the
National Thunder Motorcycle Rally

The October 2022 long weekend is set to be a little noisier in Tamworth with more than 2,000 bikes expected to be revving up and descending on the Country Music Capital.
After two false starts, as the 2020 and 2021 events were cancelled due to COVID-19, the inaugural National Thunder Motorcycle Rally is going to be four huge days of bikes, music, food, exceptional entertainment and family, friendly fun.

The rally will be held at the Australian Equestrian and Livestock Event Centre (AELEC), Tamworth which has already been proven as a very successful motorcycle rally venue by the Harley Davidson National Rally in 2015.
Tamworth Regional Council Coordinator, Events & Operations, Michaela Stevens explained that the event will be built around the theme of bikes, music & food and will include all motorcycle manufacturer’s brands.
“This new national rally, now several years in the planning, will draw several thousand bikes to Tamworth and will feature live music, bespoke equine activities including the National Thunder Horse Spectacular, a great range of trade sites, licensed bars, food stalls and much, much more” she said.

“As well as satisfying the discerning food tastes of the visitors, all music tastes will be catered for as well. With selected bands reliving the sights and sounds of 70s, 80s and 90s with tributes to The Beatles, Travelling Wilburys, Cold Chisel, ACDC, INXS, Creedence, John Farnham, Women in Rock, plus some great local cover bands and of course a little bit of blues and some country.”

In addition to the events on at AELEC, you will hear and see the rally as organised rides are planned throughout the region. The biggest ride is planned for Monday’s closing event, the National Thunder Rally Run “Thunder Run” where everyone is invited to ride through the Tamworth CBD and surrounding areas.

The Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said the NSW Government’s funding would pick up the bill for a weekend of fun, entertainment and great music.

“Our music industry has been one of the hardest hit throughout the pandemic with many musicians going without gigs and an income for a very long time. The NSW Government will be footing the bill for a weekend of entertainment which is great news for artists and great news for the community who will be pencilling the October long weekend into their social calendar,” Mr Anderson said.

“The National Thunder Motorcycle Rally will have a big knock on effect for our economy with accommodation providers, restaurants, pubs, clubs and more reaping the rewards of a visitor boost in October and I know that our local venues will be looking forward to October”.

Partners of the event, the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G), Regional Director (NSW/ACT) Ken McDonald said; “Our H.O.G members had a blast in 2015 and can’t wait to come back to AELEC for another memorable rally.”

“Harley Davidson enthusiasts and H.O.G Chapters are set to flock to Tamworth from all corners of the state and interstate to take part in the event as we also intend to hold our State Rally in conjunction with the National Thunder Rally. Riders will also get to enjoy Chapter challenges, Parade of Flags, Show and Shine and guided rides,” Mr McDonald concluded.

Registration is now open, providing great value at $149, and riders will receive 1 x National Thunder Motorcycle Rally Pin, 1 x National Thunder Motorcycle Rally Patch, 1 x National Thunder Motorcycle Rally T Shirt, and 1 x Ticket into the National Thunder Motorcycle Rally Raffle worth over $20,000, proudly supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW. Additional raffle tickets are available to purchase for $50 each when registering.

It is the intention of the organisers to collaborate with all manufacturers and organisations that share the passion for the motorcycle lifestyle and whose participation would excite the patrons of this event.

Event organisers are planning for a COVID Safe event, and will continue to monitor State and Federal Government recommendations and regulations.
