Courtesy Buses

Courtesy buses will run on Saturday and Sunday only,

Two buses will run in a loop in opposite directions. The buses will travel along Goonoo Goonoo Road, through the CBD and along Armidale Road. Unfortunately buses are unable to collect or drop off at accommodation outside of this set route.

Please stand at the front of your motel and waive the bus down. Tamworth Buslines are providing this service. If you are on Goonoo Goonoo Road you are welcome to catch the bus travelling in the opposite loop if you cross the road and walk to the nearest motel.

Getting to AELEC

BUS 1

Departs Nemingha at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.

Arrives AELEC approximately 45 minutes later.

Bus 1 starts at Nemingha, travels into the CBD via Armidale Road, turns left onto Brisbane Street, across the Peel River and left into Goonoo Goonoo Road at Ibis Styles Hotel. It will then travel South along Goonoo Goonoo Road, with a diversion to The Mercure Hotel, returning to Goonoo Goonoo Road travelling South to AELEC

Bus 1 Timetable

Not all stops are listed on the timetable. The timetable is to assist in determining an approximate arrival time to your motel. The driver will anticipate stopping at all hotels along the route. Please assist by hailing the bus to ensure pick up.

Bus 2 

Departs Stockmans Hotel at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.

Arrives AELEC approxiately 45 minutes later.

Drops at AELEC then travels North along Goonoo Goonoo Road, past Ashby House and turns right into Bridge Street. Stops at CH on Peel, turns right onto Armidale Road, turning right at East Street just before the Powerhouse Hotel (please wait North of East Street) and to Paradise Tourist Park, then along Scott Road, left into Goonoo Goonoo Road and onto AELEC.

Departing AELEC

Bus 1 and Bus 2 will depart AELEC on the Satuday and Sunday at 9.30pm, 10.30pm and 11.30pm.



Getting Here

The National Thunder Motorcycle Rally will be held in Tamworth, NSW.  Tamworth city is at the junction of the New England and Oxley Highways and lies 100km from the Tamworth Regional Council’s northern boundary and about 90km from the south-eastern tip of the region. 

Drive

Tamworth is an easy five hour drive from Sydney. The Hunter Expressway enables easier travel to and from the region including a shortened 3 hour trip from Newcastle. See a Sydney to Tamworth road map.

Fly

Tamworth Regional Airport is the largest of the regional airports in Australia. It is serviced by four airlines (Qantas, Virgin Australia and Fly Corporate) offering flights to and from Sydney and Brisbane. 

Tamworth Regional Airport has a cafe, airline lounge access, car hire service desks, an ATM and WIFI. Short and long term car parking is available adjacent to the terminal. 

The Tamworth CBD is about 10 minutes' drive from the airport. Taxis can be arranged on board your flight or when you arrive at the terminal.

Train and Bus

There are daily train and bus services to Tamworth, both interstate and from across the region. Tamworth Railway Station is only a couple of minutes’ walk from the CBD.
